The Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), owned by the
Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), provides training for over 3,500 students.
CUHAS is currently running programmes in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of
Medicine (MMed), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Pediatric Nursing (MSc.PN), Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology and Diagnostic Molecular Biology (MSc.
CMDMB), Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MSc.
EB), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education (BSc.NED), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc.N), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS), Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (BSc.MIR), Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS) and Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography (DDR).
CUHAS in collaboration with the Smart Discharges Project is looking for highly
qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following positions:
DUTY STATION: Sekour Toure Regional Referral Hospital and Bugando Medical
Centre (BMC).
PROJECT: Smart Discharges Project.
POSITION: Junior Field Officer.
DURATION: One-Year Contract, Renewable Based on the Performance.
REPORTS TO: Research Nurse Lead, Project Coordinator, Study Principal
Investigator
INTERFACES WITH: Patients/ Clients, Clinicians, Hospital Managers, Project Staff
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The field officer will be employed to assist with carrying out the “Smart Discharge” study. This process includes assisting the research nurse with consenting and enrolling participants,
conducting surveys of the child and their caregiver, and conducting follow-up surveys after hospital discharge by phone or in-person by traveling to the participant’s home in the community. The field officer will work closely with a site-based research team, as well as the
project team, based at Bugando Medical Centre (BMC)

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
- Minimum qualification; Certificate or Diploma Nurse registered with the TANZANIA NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL – TNMC.
- Must hold a valid practicing license.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent Communication skills with patients, clinicians, and other members of the general practice team.
- Good interpersonal skills and knowledge of practices, trends and principles in nursing and
Quality of care. - Familiarity with the healthcare system and research practices.
- Upholding high level of professional conduct.
- Excellent written and verbal skills in the English language.
- Certificate in Good Clinical Practice.
- Able and willing to ride a motorcycle and travel to participants in the community.
- Have a valid driving license clearly indicating Class A.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collection of all data on the ward during hospitalization and by phone or in-person at the child’s home after discharge.
- Ensuring safety and confidentiality of the data collected
- Work hand in hand with the Smart Discharges research nurse team and the child’s clinical team, to ensure accurate sharing of data, consistent quality in data collection and seamless clinical and research activities.
- Upholding high level of professional conduct
- Assist with data entry, organization, and upkeep of databases
- Work hand in hand with the Study Coordinator and PI to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data collected.
- Upholding high level of professional conduct.
- Any other duties as assigned.
SYSTEMS/ TECHNOLOGY
Mobile device familiarity, Microsoft Word & Excel, general internet use, email
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB
Excellent nursing knowledge, emotional intelligence, high level of motivation and decision-making skills, with regards both to patient care and project needs.
REMUNERATION
