Position: Position: Qualitative Field Interviewers (4 Post)
LOCATION: MDH Head Office, Dar Es Salaam
REPORTS TO: Senior Maternal and Child Health Manager
DURATION: 4 Months
The Qualitative Field Interviewer (QFI) will support data collection for the ENGAGE Study across all regions involved. They will collaborate closely with the study teams at MDH headquarters and health facilities to execute the study plan, track its progress, monitor timelines, and coordinate data collection, translation, and transcription. The QFI will also generate study progress reports for submission to senior management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting Interviews:
- Obtain required approvals for conducting research activities from the regional district and public health facilities levels, understand the study protocol, and recruit participants
- Conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews (IDIs) with clients as per the study protocol and employing all required technical standards for FGDs and IDIs
- Develop a code book for the data
- Conduct data coding using Dedoose /NVivo software
- Analyze the data
- Write reports of the findings
- Data Management:
- Translate and transcribe interviews as required by the research team.
- Write and submit detailed notes on data collection and observations.
- Ensure adherence to confidentiality procedures and policies when collecting, storing, and sharing data.
- Compliance and Ethics:
- Ensure compliance with organizational performance standards, code of conduct, and safeguarding policies.
- Adhere to all confidentiality procedures to protect the privacy and integrity of clients and collected data.
- Provide clear informed consent to potential participants before enrolling them
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other related tasks as assigned and agreed upon with the supervisor.
Educational & Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Humanities, or a health-related discipline.
- Having a master’s degree is an added advantage.
- 5 years’ experience in qualitative data collection and analysis specifically focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews (IDIs) and analysis.
- Previous experience working with key vulnerable populations (KVP) especially pregnant women and young people.
- Ability to use qualitative data management software (Dedoose or NVIVO).
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing work demands and expectations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multicultural team.
- Proficiency in computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be a native Kiswahili speaker and fluent in English.
Availability and Compliance:
- Must be fully available for the work engagement period.
- Willingness to travel outside Dar es Salaam for 50% of his/her employment period.
