Baraza la Mitihani Tanzania (NECTA) limetangaza Matokeo ya Mtihani wa Taifa wa kidato cha nne uliofanyika Novemba 2023, yakionyesha kuongezeka kwa ufaulu wa watahiniwa kwa asilimia 0.87 na ufaulu wa hisabati ukipanda kuliko masomo yote.
Mbali na kuongeza kwa kiwango cha ufaulu, ubora wa ufaulu kwa daraja la kwanza hadi la tatu nacho kimeongezeka kwa asilimia 0.47 ikilinganishwa na ilivyokuwa mwaka 2022.
Akitangaza matokeo hayo leo jijini Dar es Salaam, Katibu Mtendaji wa Necta Dk Said Mohamed amesema asilimia 37.42 ya watahiniwa wamepata daraja la kwanza hadi la tatu ikilinganishwa na asilimia 36.95 waliopata madaraja hayo mwaka 2022.
“Jumla ya watahiniwa wa shule 471,427 kati ya 527,576 wenye matokeo ambao ni sawa na asilimia 89.36 wamefaulu kwa kupata daraja la kwanza hadi la nne. Waliopata daraja la kwanza hadi la tatu ni asilimia 37.42,” amesema Dk Mohamed.

Kwenye upande wa masomo, licha ya hisabati kuendelea kuwa chini ya wastani, kiwango cha ufaulu kwa somo hilo kimepanda kuliko masomo yote ambapo takwimu zinaonesha ufaulu umeongezeka kwa asilimia 5.34. Mwaka 2022 ufaulu wa somo hilo ulikuwa asilimia 20.08.
Somo la Kiswahili ufaulu wake umeendelea kupanda ambapo asilimia 96.80 ya watahiniwa waliofanya mtihani huo wamefaulu.
“Wanafunzi waliopata daraja A hadi C kwenye Kiswahili ni asilimia 74.39, ufaulu wa watahiniwa waliopata A na B umeongezeka kwa asilimia 1.54,” amesema Dk Mohamed. Mwaka 2022 ufaulu wa jumla wa somo hilo ulikuwa 95.58.
Ufaulu kwa masomo mengine kulinganisha na mwaka 2022 ni kama ifuatavyo: uraia 70.04 kutoka 2022 67.83, historia 62.01 kutoka asilimia 63.20, jiografia 66.10 kutoka asilimia 64.32, Kiingereza 68.72 kutoka asilimia 69.09.
Masomo mengine ni fizikia kutoka 71.85 kutoka asilimia 68.34, kemia 96.14 kutoka asilimia 93.68 na biolojia 70.09 kutoka asilimia 67.84
Kwa upande wa watahiniwa wa kujitegemea ufaulu wao umepungua kwa asilimia 15.90 ikilinganishwa na mwaka 2022.
Matokeo hayo yameonesha watahiniwa wa kujitegemea waliofaulu ni 13,396 sawa na asilimia 52.44 wakati mwaka 2022 watahiniwa wa kujitegemea waliofaulu walikuwa 19,475 sawa na asilimia 68.34.

After Tanzania Mainland had pulled out of the East African Examinations Council, in 1971 and before NECTA was established by Law, in 1973, the Curriculum and Examinations Section of the Ministry of Education was responsible for all examinations. With the establishment of NECTA, the Examinations became its responsibility in accordance with the law. The Curriculum continued to be under the Ministry of Education and the University College, Dar es Salaam until when it was taken over by the newly established, autonomous Institute of Curriculum Development (ICD) in 1975, which in 1993 was renamed as the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE).
Between 1972 and 1976 the first staff of NECTA were recruited, among them was Mr. P. P Gandye who was recruited in 1972 and later on in 1994 was appointed as Executive Secretary. The other staff members continued to be recruited and especially so when NECTA’s premises moved from the Ministry of Education Headquarters to the present premises at Kijitonyama near Mwenge. Currently the number of NECTA’s staff is more than 340.

The Establishment of NECTA
The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) is Government Institution which was established by the Parliamentary Act No. 21 of 1973. NECTA is responsible for the administration of all National Examinations and Assessments in Tanzania.
The decision to establish NECTA was a follow-up of an earlier move, in April 1971, when Tanzania Mainland pulled out of the East African Examinations Council (EAEC) to conduct her own examinations. Zanzibar pulled out of EAEC in 1970. Before the pull out, between 1968 and 1971, Tanzania sat for foreign Secondary School Examinations conducted jointly by the East African Syndicate, which before then were conducted by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate alone. The Examinations conducted by the Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate then were the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate Examinations. The School Certificate Examinations was taken by the African Students for the first time in 1947 and that of the Higher School Certificate in 1960.
