HESLB categorizes study programs into different clusters based on their relevance to the country’s development priorities. These program clusters help guide the allocation of loans and scholarships to students.

The HESLB programme clusters are as follows:

  1. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): This cluster includes study programs that focus on scientific and technical fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, architecture, and related disciplines. STEM fields are crucial for technological advancements and innovation in various sectors.
  2. Health Sciences: The health sciences cluster comprises study programs related to medical sciences, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, public health, and other health-related fields. These programs aim to address the healthcare needs of the population and contribute to improving the overall health system.
  3. Education: This cluster encompasses study programs related to teaching and education. It includes primary education, secondary education, special needs education, early childhood education, educational psychology, curriculum development, and other educational disciplines. Education plays a vital role in shaping society by producing qualified teachers and educational leaders.
  4. Agriculture and Allied Sciences: Study programs within this cluster focus on agricultural sciences, agribusiness management, animal sciences, forestry, fisheries sciences, food technology, agricultural engineering, and other related disciplines. Agriculture is a key sector in Tanzania’s economy and these programs aim to enhance productivity and sustainable practices in the agricultural industry.
  5. Social Sciences: The social sciences cluster covers study programs that explore various aspects of human society including sociology, psychology, economics, political science, international relations, anthropology, geography, social work, gender studies, development studies, and other related disciplines. These programs provide insights into societal issues and contribute to policy-making and social development.
  6. Business, Administration, and Law: This cluster includes study programs in business administration, finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management, entrepreneurship, economics, law, and related fields. These programs aim to develop skilled professionals who can contribute to the business sector and legal system of the country.
  7. Natural Resources and Tourism: Study programs within this cluster focus on natural resource management, environmental sciences, wildlife management, conservation biology, tourism management, ecotourism, and related disciplines. Tanzania is rich in natural resources and has a vibrant tourism industry. These programs aim to promote sustainable management practices and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity.
  8. Journalism, Information, Library Sciences, and Media: This cluster includes study programs related to journalism, mass communication, public relations, library sciences, information technology, film production, broadcasting, multimedia arts, and other media-related fields. These programs aim to produce professionals who can effectively communicate information through various media channels.

It’s important to note that HESLB periodically reviews and updates these program clusters to align with the changing needs of the country’s development priorities.
